The inaugural event
The inaugural Consultative Session of the National Afghan Dialogue an initiative of the Mili Mewar Party—was held in person in London on Sunday, 5 Hoot 1403. This landmark gathering brought together a diverse and distinguished group of Afghans residing in the United Kingdom, including respected elders, political leaders, civil society activists, and media representatives. United by a shared commitment, they came together to confront the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, to analyse its root causes, and to seek transformative solutions.
Throughout the session, participants underscored the vital need for open dialogue among all segments of society and emphasized their practical commitment to fostering such conversations. They championed the idea of a people-centered democracy one where the nation itself plays a decisive role in choosing its leaders and shaping its future. There was a strong consensus on the importance of establishing a state grounded in the rule of law, social justice, and the enlightened principles of Islam. Equally, the meeting firmly rejected any policy of exclusion, calling for the inclusion of all voices and perspectives as an essential foundation for a united and stable Afghanistan. The indispensable roles of scholars, mosques, political parties, and civil society in the social and political fabric of the country were celebrated as key pillars of progress.
The current challenges facing Afghanistan were rigorously examined, and participants put forth visionary proposals aimed at capturing the true voice of the people. They stressed that every Afghan citizen must have the opportunity to contribute and that a platform for diverse opinions is essential. Emphasizing unity, they called for the active participation of all ethnic groups and communities, standing firmly against exclusionary practices. There was a resounding call to create an inclusive umbrella that welcomes every segment of Afghan society, with a special focus on empowering women, youth, and the educational sector all crucial to building a legitimate and sustainable system governed by the rule of law.
To ensure continued momentum, the assembly agreed to establish a provisional coordinating body of five to nine members to serve as a temporary Secretariat, tasked with steering the national dialogue. Plans were set in motion to create a dedicated website, email channel, and other communication tools to foster seamless coordination among all participants and supporters. Looking ahead, it was resolved that future sessions should be held not only in Afghanistan but also in various countries around the world, so that every Afghan has the chance to play a part in this vital process.
In closing, the participants reaffirmed the importance of learning from past experiences and working together to build a truly national, people-powered structure. They committed to presenting the session’s outcomes and recommendations to the relevant national and international bodies in the near future. The gathering ended on a deeply inspirational note, with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and a unifying prayer for prosperity, peace, and success for Afghanistan.
