About the event

On 14 September 2025, an important National Dialogue (Mili Maraka) meeting was convened by Mehwar-e-Milli in Toronto, attended by dozens of prominent Afghan figures from Ontario and other Canadian cities, with the active participation of women and youth, to assess Afghanistan's current challenges and priorities and to propose practical solutions.

Participants deliberated in seven specialist groups on key topics including the political, security, economic, educational, social and human rights situation; the results showed broad convergence of views, with a shared demand for a legitimate system, respect for citizens' fundamental rights — especially women's rights — improved psychological security, investment in economic infrastructure and the restoration of education, particularly for girls.

Two central demands emerged: that preparations be made for a global Loya Jirga of Afghans, and that violations of citizens' fundamental rights — above all girls' right to education — end immediately.

Highlights of the meeting included strengthening national solidarity among Afghans abroad, emphasising women's equal participation in political, social and educational structures, the proposal to develop these dialogues into a worldwide Loya Jirga gathering Afghan views from across the globe, and the need for a comprehensive national roadmap covering political reform, economic reconstruction, educational development and social justice.

Participants also stressed harnessing the expertise, experience and resources of the diaspora for the country's reconstruction, building a legitimate and law-based system with national and international legitimacy, a constitution and women's active participation, overcoming the economic crisis through sound investment and global economic ties, and ensuring inclusive modern education and fundamental freedoms.

At the close, participants called for the continuation of these dialogues, and Mehwar-e-Milli announced that it is working on a plan to gather Afghans' views and solutions and ultimately transform these dialogues into an inclusive Loya Jirga that can transparently chart the future of Afghanistan and its people.
